WRENWOOD, the charming country home of one of Hunt Countrys most renowned landscape designers, is being offered for the first time. The many large windows and glass doors, provide beautiful light, making this an extraordinary and inviting room with wonderful living and dining areas perfect for hosting gatherings. Open to this room and sharing a breakfast bar is the chefs kitchen with cabinetry of Sugar Pine custom made by Country Cupboards of Little Washington. The U shaped workspace features 37 1/2 high counters and includes a Wolf induction cooktop, double ovens, Miele dishwasher and Gaggenau refrigerator. Behind the kitchen is a cozy bonus room with custom cabinetry and a daybed. Both the kitchen and great room offer doors to the wrap around deck encouraging serene outdoor living and al fresco dining enveloped in nature. For approximately 5 months of the year, once the trees have dropped their leaves, one can enjoy Blue Ridge Mountain views. From the great room one also has access to a full bath on the main level and stairs of Heart Pine, which lead to the second level office loft and bedroom suite. This was the original primary bedroom and features a small bath and a balcony overlooking the gardens. As part of the original home, from the kitchen one has access to the lower level with laundry room, home office, storage and a large room used as a woodshop.

Returning to the foyer one now enters the Tavern Room of the stunning 2 story addition featuring exposed log walls and a dining area overlooking the gardens. This wing of the home features a main level primary suite with exposed logs and beams. The exposed log walls in both the Tavern Room and bedroom are from a late 1600s log cabin from Botetourt County, Virginia. The logs were split in two and attached to the exterior 2 x 6 insulated walls to provide the charm of history and comfort of today. The ceiling beams, with the markings from the adze add to the ambiance, as well as the deep set windows with custom shutters on the front 3 windows. One now enters the dressing room with wonderful cabinetry and the bath, which features a Kohler Body Spa Shower, Kohler whirlpool tub and double vanities. The upper level of this addition offers 2 charming dormer rooms and a full bath.

GARDENS AND GROUNDS: Having been included twice in Garden Week tours, the Landscape Designer/Owner provided the following description of the gardens: The gardens at Wrenwood were begun about 40 years ago. Many of the trees were planted first so they could become well established and provide a "framework" for the rest of the gardens. Planted are native trees, but also many unusual specimens that we saw at places like Longwood Gardens, Winterthur, Biltmore Estate, and at Arboretums around the east. Longwood influenced us greatly as we are in about the same climate zone as they.

Design priority was to have a garden with 4 season interest. Even in winter the native Beech maintain apricot colored leaves, native Dogwoods have red berries to feed the birds, Boxwood provide dark green structure, the Sweet Bay and Southern Magnolia hold their large shiny leaves, and the Conifers provide varying shades of blue, green and chartreuse.
